Sultan Ahmed I had the mosque built opposite Hagia Sophia. It is called the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles that line the inside. Shoes come off at the door, and part of the floor is kept for prayer, so the visit is short and quiet.
What to look for
- Blue tiles on the walls and domes
- The cascade of domes and minarets seen from outside
- The courtyard and its arcade
Opening hours
Hours not confirmed. Check the official site.
No fixed visiting hours are published. As an active mosque it is affected by prayer times, so plan around them and check on the day.
