Marrakech by season

Spring

13 to 26 °C · about 3 rainy days a month

Highs rise from about 24 degrees in March to 29 in May, with a few rain days in March and April. It is a good time to walk the medina and the gardens.

What to wear: Bring light layers, since mornings are cool, and shoes you can walk in on uneven stone.

Summer

20 to 36 °C · about 1 rainy days a month

Afternoons reach 34 to 38 degrees from June to August with almost no rain, and the nights stay around 18 to 21 degrees. Do the sights in the morning and rest in the early afternoon.

What to wear: Wear light, loose clothes that cover shoulders and knees, a hat and sunscreen, and carry water.

Autumn

15 to 28 °C · about 3 rainy days a month

September is still hot at about 33 degrees, October settles near 29 and November near 23. Rain returns slowly, with one to four rain days a month.

What to wear: Bring a light jacket for the evenings and something for a shower from November.

Winter

7 to 20 °C · about 4 rainy days a month

Days are around 19 to 21 degrees and nights near 6 to 8 degrees, with three to four rain days a month. The day is shorter, so start early.

What to wear: Wear a warm jacket for mornings and evenings, and layers for the afternoon.

If it rains

Rain is not frequent, with at most five rain days in any month, but it makes the lanes of the medina muddy and slippery. The Marrakech Museum, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Bahia Palace and the Saint Laurent museum are partly or fully indoors, and the covered souks help too. Keep the gardens and the ruins for a dry day.

The rainy-day plan for Marrakech

If it is hot and sunny

Summer afternoons are very hot and the ruins and gardens give little shade, so plan outdoor sights for the morning and the hours after sunset. Museums and covered souks work as breaks in the middle of the day. Carry water and wear a hat.
