Judería

The old Jewish quarter west of the Mezquita, a web of whitewashed lanes, small squares and flower-filled patios. It is free, has no fixed route and is the best way to walk around the Mezquita.

The quarter lies against the old walls on the west and north sides of the Mezquita. The lanes are narrow and turn often, so the walk is slow even though the distances are short. On the way you pass the Synagogue, the tiny Calleja del Pañuelo, the statue of Maimonides in Plaza de Tiberíades and the Puerta de Almodóvar in the city wall. There is no ticket and no schedule, so use it to fill gaps between timed visits.

Tip

Go early or after 18:00, when the lanes are cooler and quieter. Look into open doorways to see the patios, and keep your voice down because people live here.
