The bridge has been rebuilt many times, and tradition says it dates back to Roman times under Augustus. On it stands a statue of San Rafael from 1651. At the north end is the Puerta del Puente, a gateway that is a national monument, and at the south end the Calahorra Tower. The walk across takes a few minutes, but most people stop several times for views and photos.
