Work began in the 13th century and the building took centuries to finish, which is why it mixes several periods. The nave is very tall and light, with a large rose window over the high altar. In the 20th century the architect Antoni Gaudí reworked part of the interior, and the artist Miquel Barceló later decorated one of the chapels. The visit covers the church, and the cathedral museum is a separate part of the building.

Tip

Go as soon as it opens on a weekday. In winter the doors close mid-afternoon, so do the cathedral first and the lanes afterwards.
