The horseshoe stadium lies between two low hills east of the National Garden. It was rebuilt in white marble for the 1896 Games on the site of an ancient stadium. On entry you receive an audio guide in one of 11 languages, which runs about 30 minutes. You can climb the stands, run onto the track, walk through the vaulted passage the athletes used and visit the small museum.

Open 08:00 to 19:00 from March to October and 08:00 to 17:00 from November to February. The last ticket is sold at closing time. The stadium closes on official public holidays and sometimes for events, so check its site.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €12. The standard adult ticket is 12 euros and the reduced ticket is 6 euros. It includes the audio guide and the museum. Children up to 6 enter free.
Getting there
The Zappeio tram stop is the closest, and Akropoli, Syntagma and Evangelismos metro stations are each about a kilometre away.
Tip
In summer the stadium advises visiting in the morning or late afternoon, when it is cooler. Bring water and sunscreen.
