Plaka is the best known neighbourhood in Athens, set on the slope below the north side of the Acropolis. Pedestrian streets such as Adrianou and Kydathineon run between neoclassical houses, small churches and ancient remains that sit among the buildings. The upper lanes toward Anafiotika feel more like an island village, with whitewashed houses and steps. The main streets sell souvenirs, and the side streets are quieter.
