The city administration still sits in the 14th-century Gothic Town Hall on this square. The buildings around it were built over the centuries and show the styles of their time, from the Basilica of the Holy Blood to the Brugse Vrije and the Deanery. Of the two big squares, Markt is the heart of Bruges and Burg is its soul.
