Data checked on October 4, 2026

Gustave Eiffel's company built the tower for the 1889 World's Fair, and it was meant to stand for twenty years. You can stop at three levels: the first floor at 57 metres, the second floor at 116 metres and the summit at 276 metres. Lifts and stairs start at the pillars, the second floor is where you change lifts for the summit, and every stage has its own queue. Large bags are not allowed and there is no left luggage.

What to look for

  • The view over the Champ de Mars and the Trocadéro from the second floor
  • The summit platform on a clear day
  • The glass floor on the first floor
  • The tower lit after dark, with a sparkling show at the start of each hour
