Monastiraki is the hub where Plaka, Psirri and the Ancient Agora meet. The square is a metro interchange, and the streets around it, including Ermou and Pandrossou, are lined with shops. The flea market spreads along the lanes toward Avissynias Square and is at its busiest on Sundays. The Acropolis rises behind the square, and the old Tzistarakis Mosque and Hadrian's Library stand at its edge.
