Merrion Square
The best preserved Georgian square in the city, with brightly painted doors, a park in the middle and an Oscar Wilde statue. Allow a short stop between museums.

The square was laid out from the 1760s and is surrounded by terraces of red-brick Georgian houses. The park at the centre has been restored to its historical layout and has a playground and a sculpture trail. The Oscar Wilde statue lies in the north-west corner, facing the house where he grew up. On the west side stand the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum and the houses of the Irish parliament.

The park is open daily, and the closing time follows the season. In October it is 10:00 to 19:30 before the clocks go back on 25 October, and 10:00 to 18:30 after that. In December and January it closes at 17:00.

Free. The park is free to enter.
Getting there
Pearse station on the DART is about six minutes on foot, and the St Stephen's Green Luas stop is about ten.
Tip
Walk the full ring of the square for the doors, then cut through the park to the statue in the north-west corner.
