The Cibeles Fountain, finished in 1782, shows the goddess Cybele on a chariot drawn by two lions. It faces Cibeles Palace, the former post office and now the city hall, across a wide junction. The Bank of Spain building stands on one corner. Real Madrid fans gather at the fountain to celebrate titles, and the Puerta de Alcalá is a short walk east.
