Work on the Gothic cathedral began in 1298 and the main body was mostly finished by the middle of the 15th century. The facade and the central spire were added in the 19th and early 20th centuries in neo-Gothic style. Inside, the nave is dark and lined with side chapels, and the crypt of Saint Eulalia, the city's co-patron saint, lies below the high altar. The ticketed visit also takes in the cloister, with its pond, palms and white geese, and the roof.

What to look for

  • The cloister with its pond, palm trees and geese
  • The crypt of Saint Eulalia under the high altar
