Gaudí rebuilt an existing apartment block on Passeig de Gràcia between 1904 and 1906 for the Batlló family. The facade of broken-tile mosaic, curved balconies and bone-like columns earned it the nickname House of Bones. Inside, a tiled light well fades from deep blue at the top to pale blue at the bottom. The visit runs through the main floor, the loft and the roof, with an audioguide, and takes about an hour and a quarter.

What to look for

  • The light well tiled in graded blues
  • The curved doors, windows and woodwork of the main floor
  • The loft with its row of white arches
  • The roof ridge covered in ceramic scales, with mushroom-shaped chimneys
