Hungarian kings have lived on Castle Hill since the 13th century. The palace was almost completely destroyed during the Ottoman occupation and was rebuilt under Habsburg rule. Today the hill is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and holds the Hungarian National Gallery, the Budapest History Museum, the National Széchényi Library and the president's residence. You can ride the funicular from the river, walk the ramparts and wander between squares and courtyards at your own speed.
What to look for
- The funicular ride up from Clark Ádám tér
- The Royal Palace and its courtyards
- The view of the Parliament across the river
- The cobbled streets around Szentháromság tér

Getting there
