Hungarian State Opera House
A neo-Renaissance opera house on Andrássy Avenue, with marble stairways, gilded halls and an auditorium for about 1,000 people. Without a performance ticket you can see it on a 60 minute guided tour that ends with a short concert.

The opera house was designed by Miklós Ybl and built in the late 19th century. Statues of composers line the facade, and marble sphinxes greet visitors at the entrance. Inside, frescoes, gold ornament and polished marble fill the foyers and the staircase. The renovated auditorium seats about 1,000, and the tour ends with a short concert by soloists of the company.

The English language tour starts every day at 13:30, 15:00 and 16:30 and lasts 60 minutes. Tours are not available during performances. When the auditorium is used for rehearsals, the route goes to other areas.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket HUF 12,000. The English language tour costs HUF 12,000 per person and the Hungarian language tour HUF 6,400. Children under 3 go free.
Tickets for the tours are released one week ahead, at the box office or online, and each group is limited to 30 visitors. Book as soon as your dates open.
Getting there
Take the M1 metro to Opera, and the entrance is at Andrássy út 22.
Tip
The tour starts at the information desk in the entrance hall, so arrive a few minutes early.
