House of Terror Museum

A museum in a former headquarters of the Arrow Cross and later the communist secret police, on Andrássy Avenue. It covers Hungary under fascist and communist rule through rooms, documents and the basement cells.

The museum opened in 2002 in the building on Andrássy út 60. The route starts upstairs and works down to the basement, where the prison cells are. Most rooms cover the Arrow Cross period and the decades of communist rule that followed. The visit is heavy going, and two hours is a normal length.

Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:00 and closed on Mondays. The cash desk closes at 17:30. Check the official site before you go in case of changes.

Tickets and booking

Adult ticket HUF 4,000. A full price ticket costs HUF 4,000 and a reduced ticket HUF 2,000. Tickets are sold at the museum only, not online. An English language guided tour for a group of 10 to 30 people costs HUF 20,000 per group.

Getting there

Take the M1 metro to Vörösmarty utca, or tram 4 or 6 to Oktogon, and walk a short way along Andrássy út.
