The terrace was laid out in 1869, when Florence was the capital of Italy, and it overlooks the whole city from the south bank: the Duomo, the tower of Palazzo Vecchio, the Arno and its bridges. A bronze copy of David stands at the centre. Most visitors come at sunset, so the visit is a short climb and a longer stay.

- The bronze copy of David
- The Rampe del Poggi stairs and gardens up from the river
