The Uffizi were built in the 1560s for the offices of the Medici state and now hold the largest collection of Italian Renaissance painting. The route starts on the top floor, runs along corridors lined with ancient sculpture and passes through rooms arranged roughly by period, from medieval altarpieces to the 16th century. The galleries are long, so most people stop for a coffee halfway round.
What to look for
- Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Primavera
- Leonardo's Annunciation
- Michelangelo's Doni Tondo
- The windows over the Arno at the end of the corridors

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €25. The standard adult ticket is 25 on the day and 29 when booked in advance. The Uffizi also sells a five day PassePartout that adds the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens, which pays off only if you will visit all three.
Same-day tickets exist, but the lines are long. Book a timed ticket in advance; the official site charges more for an advance booking than for a same-day ticket.
Getting there
Walk about eight minutes from the Duomo or three from Piazza della Signoria, since the Galleria degli Uffizi bus stop sits close to the entrance.
Tip
Go at opening, or in the last two hours when the tour groups thin out.
