The centre is compact: the Duomo to the Ponte Vecchio is about ten minutes on foot, and most stops in this guide are within 25 minutes of each other. There is no metro, and buses and trams mainly serve the outer districts. A single ticket is valid for 90 minutes in Florence, so you will use few of them, mostly for the Oltrarno hills or the airport.
