The Pitti family began the palace in the 15th century, the Medici bought it in 1550, and later grand dukes and the Savoy kings lived here. One ticket covers the Palatine Gallery, the royal apartments, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Museum of Costume and Fashion, the Treasury of the Grand Dukes and the Museum of Russian Icons. Most of the paintings hang in the Palatine Gallery, packed from floor to ceiling in the way they were arranged centuries ago.

Closed on Mondays, 1 January and 25 December. The ticket office closes one hour before the museum. Parts of the Palatine Gallery and the Treasury of the Grand Dukes are closed for works.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €16. The standard ticket is 16 on the day and 19 when booked in advance, and it covers all the collections in the palace. A combined Pitti and Boboli ticket costs 22 on the day and 25 in advance.
Getting there
The Pitti bus stop is a minute from the palace, and the Ponte Vecchio is about six minutes on foot across the river.
