Granada by season

Spring

6 to 22 °C · about 5 rainy days a month

Highs climb from about 19 degrees in March to 25 in May, and April brings around six rain days. The gardens are at their best and Alhambra slots fill early.

What to wear: Pack layers and a light rain jacket, since mornings are cool and the sun is strong by midday.

Summer

15 to 33 °C · about 1 rainy days a month

Afternoons reach 31 to 35 degrees from June to August, with almost no rain. Plan the Alhambra for the first slot and rest indoors from about 14:00 to 18:00.

What to wear: Wear light cotton, a hat and sturdy sandals, and carry water, because the stone paths have little shade.

Autumn

9 to 23 °C · about 5 rainy days a month

September is still hot, with highs near 29 degrees, while October settles near 23 and the light is softer. Rain returns in October and November.

What to wear: Bring a light jacket for the evenings and something waterproof for November.

Winter

1 to 14 °C · about 6 rainy days a month

Days are around 13 degrees and nights drop close to freezing. Snow falls on Sierra Nevada and only rarely in the city. Queues are short, and the Alhambra closes at 18:00 from 15 October.

What to wear: Wear a warm coat, a scarf and shoes with grip, because wet stone lanes get slick.

If it rains

A wet day is easy to fill: the Cathedral, the Royal Chapel, the Cartuja, the San Jerónimo Monastery and the Parque de las Ciencias are all indoors. The Alhambra stays open in light rain, but the paths and the Albaicín cobbles turn slippery. The Nasrid Palaces time is fixed, so do not count on moving it.

The rainy-day plan for Granada

If it is hot and sunny

From June to August afternoons are hot and the sun is strong, so keep outdoor sights for the morning and the hours after 18:00. The Alhambra has long open stretches with little shade, so book an early slot. Churches and the science museum give cool breaks, and the Darro walk is shaded by evening.
