What stretches or shortens Granada
Granada is compact but not flat: the Alhambra, the Albaicín and Sacromonte each sit on a climb, and cobbled lanes slow everyone down. The Alhambra is the fixed point of any plan, because the Nasrid Palaces have a time on the ticket that cannot be moved. Churches and monasteries keep split hours with a long midday break, the Cathedral opens only in the afternoon on Sundays, and the science museum closes on Mondays. Leave the viewpoints and the Darro for the evening, when the stone cools and the Alhambra is lit.

Is one day in Granada enough?
One day covers the Alhambra and one other area, such as the Albaicín at sunset, but little more. The Alhambra alone takes about three hours and the Nasrid Palaces have a fixed time. A second day lets you add the Cathedral, the Royal Chapel and Sacromonte without rushing.
Do I need to book the Alhambra in advance?
Yes. Tickets are sold online and the Nasrid Palaces entry carries a time that cannot be changed. The official site recommends booking ahead because of high demand, so buy as early as you can for April, May, September and October.
Is Granada walkable?
The centre is, but the Albaicín, Sacromonte and the Alhambra are steep climbs. The small C buses run up the Albaicín from Plaza Nueva and up to the Alhambra from Plaza Isabel la Católica. A single bus ticket costs 1.60 euros and allows a change of bus within 60 minutes.
What is the best time of year to visit?
April, May, September and October bring afternoon highs between about 21 and 29 degrees. July and August average above 34 degrees in the afternoon, and January and February nights fall close to freezing.
