Oceanário de Lisboa

One of the larger aquariums in Europe, built around a central tank that you view from two levels. It is a good option in rain and for children.

The aquarium was built for Expo 98 and stands on a pier in the Parque das Nações. A single huge central tank holds the open-ocean species, and four habitat zones (Atlantic, Pacific, Antarctic and Indian) are arranged around it. You see the same water from an upper and a lower level, which is the main reason the visit takes so long.

What to look for

  • The central tank seen from both levels
  • Sunfish and rays among the sharks
  • Sea otters in the Pacific habitat
  • Penguins in the Antarctic habitat
