Brera is a collection built from the art that Napoleonic Milan gathered in the early 19th century, and it still hangs in the rooms of the old palace. You walk through a sequence of rooms by period, from early altarpieces to Venetian and Lombard painting. The famous works are close together, so the visit is easy to pace.
