The district takes its name from the Latin that students and teachers spoke around the medieval university. The Sorbonne is still here, and the streets around it are lined with bookshops, cafés and small cinemas. Roman remains and the medieval baths of Cluny show how old the ground is. It works best as a walk with no fixed route, between the Seine and the Panthéon.

- The Roman arena known as the Arènes de Lutèce
