Marie de' Medici had the palace and the garden laid out from 1612, and the palace is now the home of the French Senate. The garden mixes gravel paths and clipped lawns with a large round pond, where people sit in the green metal chairs. Statues of French queens line the terrace, and the shaded paths on the sides are quieter. Guards ask visitors to leave at closing time.

The garden changes its hours every two weeks to follow sunrise and sunset. From 1 to 15 October it opens at 07:45 and closes at 18:45. From 16 October it opens at 08:00 and closes at 18:15.

Getting there
Luxembourg on RER B is at the edge of the garden, and Odéon on Métro 4 and 10 is a short walk.
Tip
Come in the middle of the day, and leave before the gates close.
