Building began in 1152 under the architect Deotisalvi, and work went on in later periods. The building is about 54.9 metres high and about 107 metres around. A cone-shaped inner dome sits under an outer dome, which is why the sound lasts so long inside. In the middle stands the large octagonal font, and the floor around the altar has an Arab-style geometric design.

Getting there
Tip
Be inside when a demonstration starts, which happens every 30 minutes. Staff sing a few notes and the dome carries the sound.
