The long oval follows the outline of a stadium built by the emperor Domitian, which is why it is shaped like a racetrack. Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers stands in the middle, with two more fountains at the ends and the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone along one side. Cafes and street artists fill the edges, so it is a place to walk through and sit, with nothing to book.
