The Pantheon was built as a Roman temple and has been a church for well over a thousand years. The porch has tall granite columns, and inside is one large round room under a concrete dome with an open oculus at the top. Rain can fall through the oculus, and the floor drains it. The visit is short, since there is a single space to see.
What to look for
- The oculus and the disc of light it throws
- The coffered concrete dome
- The tomb of Raphael
- The granite columns of the porch
