The two palaces face each other across Piazza del Campidoglio, which Michelangelo designed, and together they form one of the oldest public museums in the world. Inside are ancient sculpture, medieval and Renaissance paintings and the original bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius on horseback. A passage under the square links the palaces and gives a view over the Forum.
