The Forum was the centre of public life in ancient Rome, with temples, law courts and the main ceremonial road. The Palatine Hill above it was the imperial residence quarter, and its ruins include palace foundations and gardens. Both are on one ticket, and most people walk a loop that takes in the hill and then drops into the valley.
What to look for
- The Arch of Titus at the east end
- The Via Sacra and the columns of the Temple of Saturn
- The House of the Vestals
- The Palatine terraces over the Forum and the Circus Maximus
