The Flavian Amphitheatre opened in the first century and held tens of thousands of spectators for games and public spectacles. You walk the upper and lower tiers, look down on the arena floor and the passages beneath it, and pass exhibitions along the way. The route is one way after a security check, and the timed slot sets your entry, not how long you can stay.
What to look for
- The arena floor and the passages beneath it
- The three tiers of arches on the outer wall
- The view toward the Roman Forum from the upper level
- The Arch of Constantine just outside the exit
