The Hofburg was the winter residence of the Habsburgs for centuries and is a complex of courtyards and wings rather than one building. The visit covers the Imperial Apartments of Franz Joseph and Elisabeth, and the Sisi Museum, which shows her belongings and tells her story. The route follows a set path. Luggage and large bags are not allowed inside, and there is no left luggage.

Open daily 9:00 to 17:30, with the ticket office closing at 16:30. From 6 October to 18 November 2026 the hours change to 10:00 to 16:30, with the ticket office closing at 16:00, while the Sisi Museum is refurbished. The Silver Collection has been closed since April 2023.

Tickets and booking

Adult ticket €20. One day ticket covers the Sisi Museum and the Imperial Apartments. From 6 October to 18 November 2026 the standard ticket price is reduced by a quarter because of the changed opening hours.

Entry is by time slot, so buy a ticket online for the day and hour you want. The entrance is under the Michaelerkuppel dome.

Getting there

Herrengasse station on the U3 line is a short walk, and the Michaelerplatz entrance is about ten minutes on foot from the cathedral.
