The Stadtpark opened in 1862, when the Ringstrasse was still being built. Its lawns, flowerbeds, large pond and avenues make a quiet place for a short rest, and the bronze monument of Johann Strauss the Younger is the best known piece. The Kursalon, a concert building, stands in the park. The Wien river promenade runs along one edge.
