The old masters museum of Munich, with European painting from the 14th to the 18th century. The collection is large, so choose a few rooms rather than all of them.

The building was made for the Wittelsbach art collection and still holds its core. Rooms run by school and period, from early German painters to the Dutch masters and Italian Renaissance work. Rubens, Dürer and Rembrandt are all well represented. Lifts serve all the floors, which helps if you have limited mobility.

Closed on Mondays. Open Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 to 20:00, and Thursday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:00. Closed on 1 May, 24 and 25 December and 31 December.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €9. Adult admission is the standard ticket. On Sundays the entry price drops to a token amount, and visitors under 18 enter free.
Getting there
Tram 27 stops at Pinakotheken, and the museum is right behind the stop.
Tip
Go on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening, when the museum stays open until 20:00 and the rooms are quieter.
