The Residenz began as a small moated castle in 1385 and grew into the seat of the Wittelsbach rulers. The museum route runs through dozens of rooms, from the Renaissance Antiquarium to rococo and neoclassical apartments. The Treasury holds crowns, jewels and goldwork. A free audio guide is available in nine languages, and the route is long, so plan for most of a morning.
