What stretches or shortens Prague

The old centre of Prague is compact, but the river and the hills split it into districts, so the walking adds up. The Castle takes most of a morning once you count the security check and the circuit, and the Jewish Museum closes every Saturday and on Jewish holidays. Old Town Hall sells skip the line tickets online, which tells you how busy it gets. Vyšehrad and the Petřín side sit outside the tourist core and need a tram or a steep climb, so group them with the neighbouring stops. Put the Castle first thing in the morning and keep the squares, the bridge and the markets for the hours when the museums are shut.

Common questions

Is one day in Prague enough?

One day covers the Castle in the morning, Charles Bridge and the Old Town Square after lunch, if you start at opening. It will not reach the Jewish Quarter, Vyšehrad or the museums. Arrive at the Castle gate early, because the security check takes time.

Do I need to book Prague Castle tickets in advance?

Tickets for the circuits are sold at the information centres inside the Castle, and the main circuit is also sold online through a partner named on the official page. Tickets are valid for two days and each building can be entered only once. Go at opening on a weekday to keep the wait short.

Which day is the Jewish Museum closed?

The museum is closed on Saturdays and on Jewish holidays, and it closes early on 24 December. From 18 October its sites close at 16:30 instead of 18:00. Plan the Jewish Quarter for Sunday to Friday and use Saturday for the river, the squares and the markets.

What can I do in Prague when it rains?

Rain falls on 6 to 10 days in most months, so an indoor plan is useful. The Jewish Museum, the National Museum, the Strahov Library, the Castle buildings and St Nicholas Church all keep you under a roof. Save the Petřín tower and the bridge for a clearer day.
