The park was once part of the gardens of the Palace of San Telmo, which the Infanta María Luisa Fernanda gave to the city in 1893. It covers more than 30 hectares and was redesigned by the French engineer Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier for the 1929 exposition. Plaza de España and Plaza de América were built then. Paths, ponds and pavilions fill the rest, and a bike or a slow walk both work.

Tip

Walk it in the late afternoon, when the shade is long and the heat has dropped. Combine it with Plaza de España at the north end.
