Valencia · El Carmen and the gates
El Carmen
The oldest part of the old town, a maze of narrow streets, small squares and street murals. It is quiet in the morning and busy after dark.

Data checked on October 5, 2026
The neighbourhood sits in the north-west corner of the historic centre and takes its name from the Carmen convent. It holds the two medieval gates of Serranos and Quart, the Centre del Carme contemporary art centre, the IVAM modern art museum and several old churches. Side walls carry large murals, and the squares have cafés and bars. There is no route to follow, and getting a little lost is part of the visit.
