The Rijksmuseum is the national museum of the Netherlands, with more than 8,000 works of Dutch art and history on show. The collection runs from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, and Rembrandt's Night Watch hangs at the end of the Gallery of Honour. You move through the rooms by period, with a free garden outside that anyone can enter. Allow time for the security check and the queue at the start.

Tickets and booking

Adult ticket €25. Visitors aged 18 and under enter free. Museumkaart holders also need a booked start time.

A start time is required for everyone, including Museumkaart holders. Book online in advance; door sales depend on availability.

Getting there

Several trams stop at Rijksmuseum right beside the building, or take Metro 52 to Vijzelgracht and walk about 15 minutes.
