The building was a city hall in the 17th century and became a royal palace in the early 19th century, and the King still uses it for receptions. You walk through the marble Citizens' Hall, the council rooms and the old tribunal, with a free audio tour that comes with the ticket. Paintings by Dutch masters such as Govert Flinck and Ferdinand Bol hang in the rooms. The palace closes when state events take place, so check the calendar before you go.

In October 2026 the palace is open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:00. It is also open on Monday 12 and 19 October, and closed on Monday 5 and 26 October. The calendar shows it closed from 12 November to the end of the month, and opening days change through the year, so check the calendar for your date.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket €13.50. The price includes an audio tour, which is also free for children. Students pay less, and visitors aged 17 and under enter free.
Getting there
The palace is on Dam Square, with tram stops at Dam, and Rokin on Metro 52 is about a six minute walk.

Check the calendar before you plan the day, since closures are announced weeks ahead.
