Eusebi Güell hired Gaudí in 1900 to lay out a garden estate on the hill, but only a few houses were built and the site became a public park in the 1920s. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The paid Monumental Zone holds the entrance pavilions, the hall of columns, and the long mosaic bench on the main terrace. Most of the park around it is free to walk.
What to look for
- The curving mosaic bench on the main terrace
- The hall of Doric columns under the terrace
- The mosaic dragon on the entrance steps
- The stone viaducts with tilted columns
