Gaudí took over the project in 1883, a year after work began, and kept working on it until his death in 1926. Construction goes on today, paid for by donations and ticket sales. Inside, the columns branch like trees and the stained glass throws cool blues and greens across one side of the nave and warm reds and oranges across the other. The visit is at your own pace, with an audioguide app included in the ticket.
What to look for
- The tree-like columns of the nave and the vault above them
- Stained glass on the east and west sides, in different colours
- The Nativity facade, where individual visitors enter
- The angular sculptures of the Passion facade
