Christopher Wren designed the cathedral after the Great Fire of 1666, and it was completed in 1710. You walk the main floor and the crypt, then climb the dome in three stages: the Whispering Gallery, the Stone Gallery and the Golden Gallery. The climb is stairs only, 528 steps in all. A multimedia guide comes with the ticket.

Tickets and booking

Adult ticket £27. The ticket covers the cathedral floor, the crypt, the Dome galleries, temporary exhibitions and a multimedia guide. On Sundays only the Dome galleries open, with their own ticket, until 25 October.

Booking online is the fastest way in. Walk-up tickets are sold, and you can choose a time on the website.

Getting there

St Paul's station on the Central line is a short walk from the west front.

Do the dome climb first, while your legs are fresh, then the floor and the crypt.
