The Tower is a royal fortress that William the Conqueror began after 1066, later used as a palace, armoury, mint and prison. Inside the walls you move between the White Tower, the Crown Jewels exhibition, the Bloody Tower and the medieval palace rooms. The Crown Jewels can have a queue, so go there early or late. A Yeoman Warder tour of the grounds is part of the visit.

Closes 17:30 now, with last entry at 16:30. From the last weekend of October it closes at 16:30 and the last entry moves to 15:00. It opens at 10:00 on Mondays and Sundays and at 09:00 Tuesday to Saturday.

Tickets and booking
Adult ticket £38. The standard ticket covers all open public areas of the Tower, including the Crown Jewels, and the Yeoman Warder tour when places are available. Some rooms and routes are closed for conservation work. The adult price shown is the one without the optional donation, and children under 5 enter free.
Book a ticket online for your date. Walk-up tickets mean a queue at the ticket office.
Getting there
Tower Hill station on the District and Circle lines is a few minutes on foot, and Tower Gateway on the Docklands Light Railway is also close.
Tip
The official site says afternoons are quieter. Go after midday, but keep time for the last Yeoman Warder tour at 15:15.
