Nymphenburg began as a country villa in the 17th century and was extended by later rulers. Inside, the Great Hall is the main room, and a gallery of portraits made for King Ludwig I shows the beauties of his court. The Marstallmuseum holds the royal carriages. The park has a canal, lakes and small pavilions, and its walking paths are the main reason to give the visit time.
