The gardens surround the domed Pavilhão Rosa Mota, which replaced the glass palace of the 19th century. Paths run under old trees between lawns and small ponds, and peacocks walk among the visitors. The terrace on the river side looks over the Douro and the Arrábida Bridge. It is a quiet stop between museums and a good place for children to run.
