Soares dos Reis National Museum

A national art museum in the 18th century Carrancas Palace, with Portuguese painting, sculpture and decorative arts.

  • 1 h 30
  • €10
  • Booking: not needed
  • Palácio de Cristal district

Data checked on October 5, 2026

The museum takes its name from the sculptor António Soares dos Reis, whose marble statue O Desterrado is its best known piece. Since 2023 a long term exhibition follows two threads: the history of the museum itself and the way its collections were built. The palace rooms and a camellia garden are part of the visit. It suits a wet afternoon or a slower stop between the busier sights.

What to look for

  • O Desterrado by Soares dos Reis
  • The long term exhibition on the museum's own history
  • Portuguese painting and decorative arts in the palace rooms
  • The camellia garden
