The Salute was built in the 17th century after a plague that killed a large part of the city's population, and it stands at the tip of Dorsoduro where the Grand Canal meets the basin. The plan is an octagon under a large dome, with a high altar behind it. The outside is as much the point as the inside. The sacristy holds paintings by Titian, including works on the ceiling.

What to look for

  • The octagonal plan under the great dome
